The Promise
She just wanted to be
The girl she promised to me
Such a good little deed
I hoped she would succeed
Out to the world she went
It was so wild, fierce, and bent
Could have swallowed her dream by tempt
Almost took away the word she kept
When she came back, her trust close to broken
She asked me why I kept the unspoken
The truth about people uncaring
The way they’d trample, betray for their taking
So, she put herself together on her own
Head held high, onto the next she proposed
But when it came for her, she wasn’t ready
Knocked her around till she hoped she’d be steady
She saw no escape, no crack, no way
So, she made a decision, then on from that day
To never allow others to dismay
The life she built for herself after immense pray
You may ask how she managed to triumph
She sold her virtue, thought it held her off
Alas I was no more, too far to assuage
The promise she made was broken, a wasted crusade
I wrote this poem with the intention of highlighting how difficult it can be to stay true to ourselves during hard times. It is a message of support to all those who need it. Nothing can break you; you are stronger than that. And even when you are broken, you can make yourself anew.
As usual, you can leave a comment with your thoughts in the comments section! That always makes my day.
